Peerage Capital and its Partners were privileged to host a private reception for Stephen A. Schwarzman, co-founder and CEO of Blackstone, on December 4, 2019. The event was a celebration of the Canadian launch of Mr. Schwarzman’s best-selling book, What It Takes: Lessons in the Pursuit of Excellence.
The book tells the story of how a $400,000 investment in 1985 has been transformed into a global investment firm that manages a $554 billion portfolio of companies across multiple sectors. In a “fireside chat” with Peerage founder and chairman, Miles Nadal, Mr. Schwarzman opened up about his early days as a struggling entrepreneur, the importance of listening to others, and – above all – how to learn from mistakes made along the way. He explained that, in large part, Blackstone has succeeded by strictly adhering to a rigorous risk assessment process.
He also spoke about his ongoing commitment to philanthropy, specifically in the area of education.
