PHILANTHROPIC SPOTLIGHT: PEERAGE CARES INAUGURAL EVENT SUPPORTS YOUTH UNLIMITED CHILDREN’S CAMP IN SCARBOROUGH

by

“A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove… but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”

– Forest E. Witcraft

On the morning of July 8th 2019,  Peerage Capital was proud to launch our very first Peerage Cares philanthropic initiative.

About Peerage Cares

This program was sprung from our aim as a corporate family to “Engage, Empower and Effect” the community in which we work. Our objective is to make an impact by providing resources – financial or personal time – to programs or events that will directly benefit children and families living in the area.

Philanthropy is deeply important to our Founder Miles S. Nadal. Miles understands the impact that community services have on those who need it most. As a young boy, he was able to attend summer camp at the Bloor Street Jewish Community Centre thanks to the generosity of a sponsor, and his experience there is the inspiration for his strong support of community programs.

As our first initiative, Peerage Cares delivered over 40 knapsacks to a group of exuberant kids aged 6-12 at a Youth Unlimited camp run out of Wilmar Heights Baptist Church in Scarborough. These bags contained summer camp essentials like sunscreen, sunglasses, bug repellant, flashlights, water bottles, socks, pens and notepads, as well as a few creative extras like sidewalk chalk. Peerage Cares volunteer and Peerage Capital’s Director of Philanthropic Programs & Initiatives, Lisa Conrad, noted how sweet it was to observe the thrill the children showed while opening the bags and how many immediately started playing with their new flashlights.

About Youth Unlimited (YU)

Youth Unlimited is a charity based in Toronto that believes transformed youth can transform our city. They have a strong 70-year history in helping disenfranchised adolescents maximize their potential by engaging in supportive programs.

Since the 1980s, YU has firmly kept their central focus on the youth who are vulnerable to poverty, violence, gang involvement, family breakdown, and spiritual impoverishment.

Today, they work with a diverse community of neighbourhoods spanning across the GTA. YU strongly believes that by giving young people the tools they need to succeed they can help bring positive change to the city – for generations to come.

YU is involved with several initiatives ranging from community outreach, marketplace initiatives, training & equipping and specialized initiatives. They support a variety of community after school programs, summer camps and sports programs and are involved with helping with job readiness, skills training and employment placement.
